MEDIA NOTICE Brattleboro, VT (January 22, 2021) -- The Richards Group ("Richards Group") is committed to maintaining the privacy and security of information it maintains. On January 20, 2021 Richards Group notified individuals of a data security incident because one employee email account was accessed by an unauthorized third party. Richards Group provides insurance-related services to businesses, and impacted individuals are employees of those business customers. Upon learning of the email incident, Richards Group immediately secured the account and commenced a prompt and thorough investigation. After an extensive forensic investigation and manual document review, Richards Group discovered on November 24, 2020 that the email account that was accessed between May 1, 2020, and May 11, 2020 contained some personal information. The information contained within the compromised email account included names, addresses, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, driver's license numbers, financial account information, medical diagnosis information, treatment information, and medical insurance identification. To date, Richards Group is not aware of any reports of identity fraud, theft, or improper use of the information as a result of this incident but nevertheless is providing this notice out of an abundance of caution. Richards Group is also directly notifying potentially-affected individuals. Notified individuals have been provided with best practices to protect their information. It is recommended that individuals whose medical and health insurance information was impacted review the statements that they receive from their health insurance providers and follow up on any items not recognized. Credit monitoring and identity theft restoration services have been offered to individuals whose Social Security numbers were impacted. Richards Group is committed to maintaining the privacy of personal information. Richards Group is continually evaluating and modifying its practices and procedures to enhance appropriate security and privacy measures to prevent recurrence of this incident.
