TOWN OF BRATTLEBORO, VERMONT Amendment to the Code of Ordinances December 15, 2020 NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Selectboard of the Town of Brattleboro on December 15, 2020 at a duly warned meeting adopted the following AMENDMENTS to Chapter 8 Health, Sanitation, Fire Safety Inspections, and Rental Housing , Article 5 Rental Housing Security Deposits , Sections 8-71 through 8-75 of the Brattleboro Code of Ordinances, viz: Chapter 8, Article 5, Sections 8-71 through 8-75 The amendment to the Ordinance limits the amount of money that an owner of a property may charge tenants as a condition of rental, lease, or occupancy of a rental unit to one month's rent and an amount not to exceed one month's rent for a security deposit. The owner may also require payment equal to one-half (1/2) the amount of one month's rent as a condition for allowing the occupants to have a pet, except for those animals that mitigate a disability. A copy of this Amendment may be obtained from the Brattleboro Town Manager's Office. Peter B. This amendment shall be posted in five conspicuous places within the Town and published in the Brattleboro Reformer on the 19th day of December, 2020, and shall become effective on the 13th day of February, 2021 unless a petition for a vote to disapprove the ordinance at a special or regular town meeting is signed by not less than five (5%) percent of the qualified voters of the Town of Brattleboro and filed with the Town Clerk within 44 days of the date of adoption stated above.
